This land is known to the local as Red Canyon.

當地人愛稱這地方為紅峽谷。

Steens Mountain, located in southeastern Oregon, is the largest fault block mountain in the Great Basin. Eons ago, enormous pressure under the earth’s crust pushed up one side of an existing fault line, creating the jagged east face of Steens Mountain, which towers nearly a mile above the Alvord Desert below. On the west side, Steens Mountain slopes down more gradually. Over time, the western side was carved by glaciers that created the Big Indian, Little Blitzen, Kiger, and Wildhorse gorges. (Taken from Northwest Horse Trails)

The mountain was once known as a sacred place by Native Americans who lived on its slopes. Later, the area became known as Steen’s Mountain, named after the Army Cavalry Major, who defeated and removed the Native American population from the mountain during the Snake Indian Wars. Today, in recognition that no man can own such a place, the name dropped the ownership apostrophe and became Steens Mountain.

This shot was taken from the loop road at approximately 9500 feet. All that brilliant yellow you are seeing are Aspens stands. We took the Steens Mountain Road from French Glen up to Steens summit trailhead where you can find Wildhorse Lake.

if something was my fault, I always have to think a lot about it ... but life goes on and time sometimes heals all wounds ...

♫P!NK - Walk Me Home

"...Walk me home in the dead of night

'Cause I can't be alone with all that's on my mind

Say you'll stay with me tonight

'Cause there is so much wrong going on

Walk me home in the dead of night..."

The highest point in Idaho at 12,662’/ 3859 m, Borah Peak (left) is unique in being primarily composed of limestone (most of the gray rock seen here) that was deposited at the bottom of an ocean 420 million years ago. The slightly younger reddish siltstones on the right side form some wonderful banded strata below the summit of Sacajawea Peak.

Also notable is the light colored band at the base of the mountain seen at the bottom of the picture. I initially assumed this was a road or a trail, but it’s a remnant of a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that hit the area in 1983, the largest quake ever recorded in Idaho. The valley side of the fault dropped as much as 9’/ 2.7 m and the mountain side rose by as much as 3’ / 1 m, leaving a notable fault scarp 21 miles/ 34 km long.

Baertooh Butte (10,518 ' elev.) rises 1,613 feet above Beartooth lake on the Beartooth Plataeu in Wyoming's Absaroka Shoshone Yellowstone National Park. The peak and lake lie in Wyoming near the Montana State Line. The Butte from the lakeshore to the top is composed of Paleozoic sedimentary ocks from the Cambrian to Devonian in age (540 to 358 Million years ago). These limestone, shales, dolomites, sandstone, and minor conglomerate ere mostly deposited in a shallow seaway. In Devonian time the arae was an estuarine chanel cut down into older rocks. These beds are famous for fish and plant fossils found at the Beartooth locality.

The remnant of lower Paleozoic rock found at the Butte is preserved in the hanging wall of a northwest-trending normal fault called the Top of the World Fault. Beartooth Butte is properly termed a nunatak, or an isolated hill that once projected above the surface of glacial ice that surrounded it during the Pleistocene. Both the wedge shape of the butte and the absence of glacial deposits at its summit attest to the flow of ice from the northeast to the southwest, around Beartooth Butte. The ice flow, however, was resonsible for the depression now occupied by Beartooth Lake.

Normal faults offset the rocks visible in this road cut near the old community of Nugget in the Tunp Range west of Kemmerer, Lincoln County, Wyoming. The red beds on the right are calcareous mudstones which are part of the Upper Triassic Ankareh Formation. To the center and left of the photo, the purple to red beds of siltstone and sandstone also belong to the Upper Triassic Ankareh Formation. The tan interbeds on the left are indurated sandstone (quartzite). The tan to buff colored rock on the left above the red beds are the lower beds of the Triassic/Jurassic Nugget sandstone. Nearby these sandstone beds become massive, crossbedded, ridge-formers.

This photograph is of the land near Palm Desert, California through which runs the San Andreas Fault. In taking this photograph, I was informed by a nearby sign that stated "San Andreas Fault," with an arrow pointing in the direction one sees in the image. I have been advised that the actual fault probably runs between the hills in the photograph's foreground, and the distant mountain range. For those interested, information regarding the San Andreas Fault will be found below.

The San Andreas Fault is a continental fault that extends roughly 750 mi through the Californias. It forms the tectonic boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate.

The fault was first identified in 1895 by Professor Andrew Lawson of UC Berkeley. In the wake of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, Lawson was tasked with deciphering the origin of the earthquake, and he concluded that it originated from this fault line.

Researchers believe that the San Andreas fault has reached a sufficient stress level for an earthquake of magnitude greater than 8.0 to occur in the foreseeable future, but exactly when the triggering will happen and when the earthquake will occur is, of course, unknown. Should an earthquake along the fault occur, it will result in massive damage throughout the state of California.

details from a stupendously huge stump I came across.

A section of the cliffs between Seaton and Beer in East Devon, viewed from Seaton beach. Thanks to a fault running N - S, the cliffs change dramatically from red Mercia Mudstone (Triassic) to Cretaceous Chalk.

Info from southampton.ac.uk/~imw/Beer.htm

In life, sometimes we make stupid decisions that we just can't take back. Hurting ourselves and the people that mean the world to us in the process.

It may seem right at the moment but when it all sinks in and you realize the impact it has caused people, it's too late and it breaks you. The next thing you know, all you can do is just slowly sit in the corner, accept the pain and wish that you didn't actually do it.

Humans are complicated, separates us from the animals. But the complexity causes most of our downfalls too.

dropping off another shot taken this weekend

The Point Reyes peninsula is a well defined area, geologically separated from the rest of Marin County and almost all of the continental United States by a rift zone of the San Andreas Fault, about half of which is sunk below sea level and forms Tomales Bay. The fact that the peninsula is on a different tectonic plate than the east shore of Tomales Bay produces a difference in soils and therefore to some extent a noticeable difference in vegetation.

The peninsula includes wild coastal beaches and headlands, estuaries, and uplands. Parts of the park are private farms and ranches which have commercial cattle grazing. These were leased back when the park was purchased to continue these historic uses. Other parts are under the jurisdiction of other conservation authorities but the National Park Service provides signage and manages visitor impact on the entire peninsula and Tomales Bay.

Nasca fault (Peru) 20221120

The Nazca Plate or Nasca Plate, named after the Nazca region in southern Peru, is an oceanic tectonic plate in the eastern basin of the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of South America. The ongoing subduction, along the Peru-Chile Trench, of the Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate is largely responsible for the Andean orogeny. The Nazca Plate is bounded to the west by the Pacific Plate and to the south by the Antarctic Plate through the East Pacific Rise and Chile Rise, respectively.

The Fault In Our Stars I Birdy -- Not About Angels

-The Fault in Our Stars:

part of Augustus Waters' last letter to Hazel

"Hazel is different. She walks lightly, old man. She walks lightly upon the earth. Hazel knows the truth: We’re as likely to hurt the universe as we are to help it, and we’re not likely to do either.

People will say it’s sad that she leaves a lesser scar, that fewer remember her, that she was loved deeply but not widely. But it’s not sad, Van Houten. It’s triumphant.

It’s heroic."

-------------------------------------- Story --------------------------------------

As I've said before, this weekend was jumping time. We went to Evergarden Equestrian a bit earlier, taking the time to get set up and also for our mare to get used to the atmosphere of this place. Lot of peoples was there, riders, spectators, sponsors and of course, stewards.

Hopefully we wasn't in the first ones to go, we were in the middle of the list, which is perfect to look at the others competitors and remember the course.

The more the participants followed each other on the course, the more Euphoria's muscles strained. She was ready, ready to go on the jumps, she loved that. We did some clean runs on our training time, we will see how we doing in real conditions.

Maybe was it cause of the crowds, of her young experience in competition, of her rush trends or maybe it was cause of me but we did make a fault on two jumps. Cause of this, we didn't place. It's not really a big matter, the stewards told everyone that if we wanted, we could have a second run if we wasn't proud of our first one, but even with those little faults, Euphoria did great and I rather didn't took the second run to leave her on a fairly good course.

We did have a participation ribbon so, we're really happy with it ! Next saturday, we will try again, we will train again and we will have fun.

Proud of you my pretty mare, thank you for this first competition with you !

(Oh yes, I'm kinda talking to myself but eh, told that I had my Ranch in my head.. xD)
